Parrot Rifle 1861 invented by Robert Parker Parrott, Parrots were manufactured with a combination of cast iron and wrought iron. The cast iron improved the accuracy, but was brittle enough to suffer fractures. On the Parrott, a large wrought iron reinforcing band was overlaid on the breech. The Parrott had a poor reputation for safety, therefore being shunned by many artillerymen. The ammunition was shells. The year it was created was 1860, but it was patented in 1861. This rifle was used in the American Civil War.
